Tulsa sends the ECHL rights for former Oiler defenseman Miles Liberati in exchange for goaltender Hayden Hawkey

TULSA, OK— The Tulsa Oilers, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Anaheim Ducks, announced Tuesday the acquisition of goaltender Hayden Hawkey by sending the ECHL rights of defenseman Miles Liberati to the Allen Americans.

Hawkey, 26, joins the Oilers from Allen, where the goaltender made two appearances with the Americans, going 1-1 with a 1.83 GAA, a .923 save percentage and a shutout.

Montreal’s fifth selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, Hawkey has appeared in 10 ECHL games, playing for Kansas City, Allen and Wheeling. The Oilers have faced Hawkey in two of his 10 appearances.

The Parker, CO native played his college hockey at Providence College, racking up a program-high 72 wins and 16 shutouts in 125 games with the Friars while posting a 2.02 GAA and a .918 save percentage. Hawkey left the Friars with several accolades, including Second Hockey East All-Star, Hockey East Honor Roll, and All-New England All-Star honors. Hawkey was also named Hockey East Player of the Week five separate times, and he earned the Thomas Eccleston, Jr. Award, which is presented to Providence College’s Team Unsung Hero.

The 6’2, 185 goaltender had a dominant USHL career, leading America’s best junior league with a 1.99 GAA and .926 save percentage en route to USHL All-Rookie Team, First All-Star Team and Goaltender of the Year honors in 2013-14.  Hawkey finished his junior career with a 27-13-5 record, a .917 save percentage and 2.29 GAA.

The Oilers host the Rapid City Rush three times this week, starting on Friday at 7:05 p.m. The Oilers follow up on Saturday night at the same time before closing the week out with a 4:05 p.m. Sunday Family Funday game. Tickets are still available for all three games, but seating is limited.
