Win Streak Ends in 5-3 Loss
The Mississippi RiverKings defeated the Tulsa Oilers 5-3 Saturday night, ending Tulsa’s three game winning streak. Neither team led the game by two goals, until the final empty net goal with 41 seonds to play.
The Oilers struck first as Aaron Davis scored a rebound goal four and half minutes into the game. But later first period power play goals by Andrew Lackner and Kevin Truelson gave Mississippi the lead at the first intermisison.
The Oilers struck back on Tyler Butler’s fifth power play goal of the season midway through the second period. But Matt Summers scored Mississippi’s third power play goal of the night, this one on a two-man advantage with 25 seconds left in the period, again giving the visitors a one goal lead at intermisison.
Dan Riedel finished off a back and forth passing play with T.J. Caig to again tie the score with nearly 16 minutes to play. But a little over four minutes later Nathan Schwartbauer blasted in a rebound from the slot giving Mississippi a 4-3 lead.
Any hopes of the Oilers tying the game once again ended when Matt Pierce intercepted a pass at center ice and sent it into the Oilers empty net.
The Oilers play at Amarillo Sunday at 4:05 p.m.
