Goalies Steal The Show

The battle in net continues to heat up as goaltenders Ian Keserich, Larry Sterling, and Dan Bakala combined to allow just one goal in Wednesday’s scrimmage.

“I thought all three goalies looked really good out there,” said Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay.  “All three are capable of playing the puck, they’re quick, they’re competitive and it’s one of the toughest battles we have going on in camp.  It’s probably tough on them, but it’s a luxury to have as a coach.”

Beauregard Turning Back The Clock

Forward David Alexandre Beauregard may be the oldest player on the Oilers training camp roster, but the veteran seems to be picking up where he left off last season when he put up 39 goals with the Nottingham Panthers in the English Elite League.  The 36-year old, now entering his fourth season with the Oilers, has impressed teammates and his coach with his performance through the first week of camp.

“He looks like he’s 26 out here,” remarked Ramsay.  “Beau is skating really well, working hard, and he’s been a pleasure to have around.  He’s a great addition to this team.”

Bergin Brings His Best

Anthony Bergin is one Oilers rookie who is making the most of his first pro opportunity.  The 23-year old forward spent the last two seasons at the University of Toronto after four years of junior hockey in his home province of Ontario.  Ramsay, who didn’t know exactly what he had in Bergin, has been pleasantly surprised over the last three days.

“He’s got good speed and a good shot, he’s intense, and he finishes his checks,” commented Ramsay.  “He brings to the table what we expect out of a pro hockey player and he’s definitely a kid who has a good future.”

Graham Makes Camp Debut

Rookie center Derek Graham is the latest addition to the Oilers training camp roster.  Graham is fresh off a productive four-year collegiate career at Ferris State University and also played two seasons of junior hockey for the Mahoning Valley Phantoms of the NAHL.  In the 2007-08 campaign, the 24-year old Graham led the Phantoms with 71 points in 54 games and was an NAHL All-North Division selection.

Roczanov’s Smashing Slapper

Hungarian forward Deszo Roczanov provided all the highlights in Wednesday’s scrimmage.  Not only did Roczanov score the only goal, he also caused a delay when he rocketed a slap shot that shattered the glass behind the net.  Roczanov, who participated in the Oilers free agent camp last week, is trying to earn a spot on his first North American team.
