Shootout Win Snaps Skid
A three goal rally in the second period lifted the Tulsa Oilers to a 4-3 shootout win over the Colorado Eagles Friday night in Colorado. The win ended two eight game streaks–the Oilers eight game losing streak and Colorado’s eight game winning streak.
After Daymen Rycroft and Adam Hogg staked Colorado to a 2-0 first period lead the Oilers roared back in the second. A large scale fight late in the first period led to the ejection of both starting goaltenders, Tyler Sims of the Oilers and Andrew Penner of Colorado.
In spite of being outshot 23-8 in the second period, stellar goaltending by Ian Keserich and goals by Jack Combs, Chad Costello and Mike Beausoleil gave the Oilers the lead heading into the third period.
The Oilers were 3:21 away from a regulation win but Scott May deflected in Rycroft’s shot from the blueline that tied the game.
The Oilers killed a penalty in overtime and in the shootout Keserich stopped four of five Colorado attempts, while Combs and Costello scored for the Oilers.
The Oilers play at Rapid City at 8:05 p.m. on Saturday and return home to face the Allen Americans Thursday November 18th.
