Rewind–Oilers Sting Killer Bees 2-1 In Shootout

For the second time this season, the Tulsa Oilers defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, 2-1 in a shootout, Sunday afternoon at the BOK Center. The Oielrs had won by the exact scenario at Rio Grande Valley on November 29th.

After a scoreless first period, defenseman Sean Erickson rapped home a rebound just past the midway point of the second period. In another similarity to November 29th, the Oilers regulation goal that day came from a defenseman, Derek Merlini.

The Oilers were within a minute and a half of a regulaton victory but Rio Grande Valley pulled its goaltender and with an extra attacker, defenseman Nathan Ansell riped home a centering feed with 1:29 left in regulation time.

The scoreless overtime send the game to a shootout with the Oilers making quick work of things, getting goals from Dan Riedel, T.J. Caig and newly acquired Travis Banga. At the other end of the end of the ice, Trevor Cann stopped Sean Muncy, Joel Irving and Grant Goeckner-Zoeller.

Tulsa continues a four game homestand Tuesday against Missouri at 7:05 p.m.
