Oilers Pop Up In Best Of Best Survey
Tulsa Oilers Marty Standish has made a reputation for being a pesky player and he’s been recognized by his peers in the annual Central Hockey League Best of the Best poll. The survey polls league players, coach’s training staffs, media personnel and others in 46 different categories. The categories deal with playing ability, facilities, concessions and overall game night experience. Standish earned the nod as being the second best defensive forward behind Brett Smith of Bossier-Shreveport. For the second straight year also, the Oilers home arena, the BOK Center also earned spots in the poll. Voters tabbed the BOK Center as the second best arena and also as having the second best locker rooms behind the newly opened INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita. Playoff Push: The Tulsa Oilers hit the road for three games this week, being the first team to have concluded its home schedule. The Oilers play a school day game at Amarillo on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m.; then play two games at Colorado on Friday and Saturday with both of these games starting at 8:05 p.m. Central time. Home Finale: The Oilers capped off a five game homestand and their regular season winning two of their final three games. Oilers Rope Mavericks In Shootout, 3-2
Goaltender Marco Emond turned away all four shooters he faced in a shootout, while Aaron Davis and Marty Standish connected, to lift the Tulsa Oilers to a 3-2 shootout win over the Missouri Mavericks. The win pulled the Oilers to within three points of Missouri and Mississippi who are tied for fourth place in the Central Hockey League's Northern Conference. Jake Riddle opened the scoring with the Oilers 19th shorthanded goal of the season, tying Texas for the league high. Jeff MacDermid tied it with just over a minute left in the first period. In the second period, it was the Oilers turn to score late. Luke Stauffacher was able to punch in a rolling puck and that held until Mike Burgoyne scored midway through the third. The Tulsa Oilers suffered their second shutout of the season, losing to the Rapid City Rush, 3-0 at the BOK Center Friday night. The loss combined with Missouri's win, and Mississippi's loss leaves the Oilers four points behind fourth place Missouri and three points behind fifth place Mississippi. Scott Wray and Derek LeBlanc had first period goals for Rapid City and the Rush made those hold up while Danny Battochio stopped all 34 shots he faced recording his and Rapid City's second shutout of the season. Wray scored an empty net goal, clearing the puck the length of the ice with four seconds left. The Oilers can make up ground in the playoff race hosting Missouri Saturday night at 7:35. All Around Effort Tightens Playoff Race
Six different goal scorers, two shorthanded goals, and a power play goal added up to a 6-3 win for the Tulsa Oilers over the Mississippi RiverKings Wednesday night at the BOK Center. The win pulls the Oilers to within three points of the fourth place RiverKings and two points of fifth place Missouri in the Northern Conference. Adam Bartholomay, Dan Riedel and Troy Riddle (shorthanded) staked the Oilers to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. Glenn Detulleo got Mississippi on the board with just 33 seconds left in the period. Mississippi made things interesting as Stephen Margeson cut the lead to 3-2. The Tulsa Oilers dropped a hard fought 3-2 contest to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Sunday at the BOK Center. The loss leaves the Oilers in sixth place in the Northern Conference. Each team scored once in the first two periods. Simon Mangos had a pair of power play goals for Bossier-Shreveport while Luke Stauffacher scored his first goal as an Oiler and Troy Riddle had a short handed goal. Tyrel Lucas had the lone goal of the third period, that stood up as the game winner for Bossier-Shreveport which has now won eight straight games. Oilers Rally Earns Big Point
The Tulsa Oilers overcame a two goal deficit at the start of the third period, and in spite of losing 4-3 to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in overtime still earned an important point to stay within striking of a playoff position in the Northern Conference. Goaltender Marco Emond, in his first start of the season for the Oilers, stopped 20 of 21 shots he faced in the first period, as only Tyrel Lucas' rebound with 39 seconds left gave Bossier-Shreveport a 1-0 lead. Dan Riedel got that back for the Oilers in the first two minutes of the second period. His goal ended a shutout streak of 86:05 against Bossier-Shreveport. The Tulsa Oilers will have their only Wednesday home game of the regular season on March 3rd against the Mississippi RiverKings at 7:05 p.m. A ticket printing error on the Oiler season ticket books lists the game (home game #30) as Tuesday March 2nd. The game will be Wednesday March 3rd, and those season tickets are good for the March 3rd date. Fans will be able to see the Oilers on March 2nd however. Oiler players will be at Woodland Hills Mall from 6-8 p.m. in a special Drilling for Oilers contest. Players will be in various stores throughout the Woodland Hills Mall. The Tulsa Oilers dropped a see saw affair to the Missouri Mavericks and dropped to sixth place in the CHL's Northern Conference. After Simon Watson staked Missouri to a 2-0 lead with two goals, the Oilers roared back on goals by Dan Riedel, Jim Henkemeyer, Jake Riddle, and Travis Banga. Oilers Hotties Help Hotcakes For Haiti
The Tulsa Oilers Ice Girls, who are used to serving up entertainment, will be serving up pancakes for a good cause Saturday morning. Ice Girls will be on hand at the Longhorn Steak house on 71st Street by Woodland Hills Mall serving pancakes in a special “Hotcakes for Haiti” event. The Pancake breakfast is from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Cost is just $5 for all you can eat pancakes. Proceeds from the event will go purchase water filters for victims of the Haitian earthquake. Tickets can be purchased at the door. Along with the breakfast, there will be a number of auction items, including Oiler tickets and souvenirs. Love Blooms At Hockey Happy Hour
There was more than hockey talk in the air at the Tulsa Oilers Hockey Happy Hour coach's show Monday night at Indigo Joe's Sports Bar and Restaurant. During the weekly visit with Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay, Jason Johnson asked longtime Oiler fan Deanna Davidson to marry him. In one of his easiest pieces of coaching advices, Ramsay suggested, "Say yes." She did. Davidson has been a regular attendee of the Oilers' coach's shows for years. Johnson wanted to ask the question in an setting that would be special and surprise her. He did. The Oilers play Wednesday and Friday at Wichita and Missouri respectively. Ten Hut!: The Tulsa Oilers salute the military and the future this weekend. After road games at Wichita on Wednesday and Missouri on Friday (both at 7:05 p.m.) the Oilers return home for two games with Bossier-Shreveport, Saturday at 7:35 p.m. and Sunday at 4:05 p.m. Saturday the Oilers will salute the military, and Sunday is Kids Day.
