Tulsa Oilers Weekly – January 30, 2012
Week In Review: It was a successful weekend for the Oilers as they picked up five out of a possible six points during a stretch of three games in less than 48 hours. Friday night in Fort Worth, Gary Steffes scored the only goal of a tight, defensive game as the Oilers held on for a 1-0 decision over the Texas Brahmas. Ian Keserich turned aside 23 shots to record his second shutout of the season.
After earning a point in a 3-2 overtime loss to Wichita on Saturday, the Oilers returned home Sunday afternoon to face the Laredo Bucks. Mike Ullrich set the tone with a goal 34 seconds into the game and it was evident very quickly that the Bucks had no answers for the Oilers offense. Ullrich registered his second hat-tr ... more
Ullrich’s Hat-Trick Leads Oilers in Rout of Bucks
TULSA, OK – Simply put, the Oilers were due. Tulsa hadn’t scored more than two goals in any of its previous six games, but broke out of its offensive funk in a big way on Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 thrashing of the Laredo Bucks in front of 5,313 at the BOK Center.
Just 34 seconds into the game, Mike Ullrich took a feed from Dylan Clarke and scored through the five-hole of Ryan Rondeau to give the Oilers an early lead. It was a lead they would never relinquish. Ullrich tallied again at 12:03 of the first when he beat Rondeau high over the glove side. Before the first frame was over, Michel Beausoleil tipped in a shot from the point for just his second goal in the last 17 games.
Up 3-1 midway through the second period, Beausoleil struck again. Oilers veteran forward Mart ... more
Oilers Shutout Brahmas For Tough Road Win
FORT WORTH, TX – With the defense clicking and Ian Keserich turning in another strong performance in net, the lack of offense didn’t hurt the Oilers in a 1-0 win over the Texas Brahmas on Friday night.
Gary Steffes recorded the game’s only goal late in the second period as the Oilers beat the Brahmas for the fourth time in five meetings. Steffes picked up a loose puck and sped down the left wing beating Steve Silverthorn underneath the glove. Tulsa held on through the third period to improve to 9-11-2 on the road.
Keserich turned aside all 23 Texas shots to register his second shutout of the season. The only other Oilers shutout came against the Brahmas back on October 22 in the second game of the season.

Icemen Stun Oilers As Time Expires in OT
EVANSVILLE, IN – The evenly played contest between the Oilers and Icemen seemed destined for a shootout. Until it wasn’t. Evansville’s Jake Obermeyer scored as the buzzer sounded to end the overtime period. Referee Ryan Harrison immediately counted the goal and without the luxury of video replay, the Oilers had no recourse but to accept the decision and head home with a single point in a 3-2 loss.
Thanks to goals from Ryan Cramer in the first period and Luke Lucyk in the second period, Tulsa carried a 2-1 lead late into the third period. Cramer registered his 12th of the season on a two-on-one rush with Mike Ullrich late in the opening frame. For the rookie winger, it was his first goal since returning to the lineup after sitting on the injured reserve list fo ... more
Oilers Outlast Komets, Earn Split of Weekend Series
FORT WAYNE, IN – One night after falling to the Komets, the Oilers took an early first period lead and held on for the duration of the contest to pick up a hard-fought 2-1 victory in front of 8,117 at the Fort Wayne Memorial Coliseum.
Mike Ullrich snapped a nine-game stretch without a goal when he deked around a Komets defenseman and beat goaltender Gerry Festa at the 11:10 mark of the first period. With his 17th marker of the season, Ullrich re-gained the CHL’s rookie goal lead.
Late in the first period, the Oilers were down a man when Marty Standish scooped up a loose puck in the Fort Wayne zone and zipped a shot past Festa to push the Tulsa lead to 2-0. It was Standish’s fourth goal of the year, the Oilers third shorthanded tally of the season.

Tulsa has now lost six of its last seven games overall and six of its last seven road games.
With Fort Wayne up 3-1 early in the third, Jay Sprague received a pretty feed from Giudice and snapped the puck past Nick Boucher to pull the Oilers within a goal. Tulsa enjoyed a two-man advantage mid-way through the final frame but could only find the iron instead of the mesh as Beausoleil’s slapshot connected with the post.

Mavericks Deal Oilers Lopsided Loss
TULSA, OK – The Tulsa Oilers picked up a much needed win on Monday in Allen but couldn’t carry the momentum into Tuesday night’s tilt against Missouri. Despite firing just 19 shots on goal, the Mavericks scored twice in each period en route to a 6-2 victory in front of 3,410 at the BOK Center.
Patrick Shafer provided all the offense for Missouri in the first period with a pair of even strength goals eight minutes apart.
Dylan Clarke pulled the Oilers back within one when he beat Mavs goalie Charlie Effinger on a partial breakaway at 2:30 of the second period. Tulsa’s comeback bid was dealt a major blow when Dave Pszenyczny scored on a powerplay after the Oilers were caught with too many men on the ice. Oilers Get Timely Goals In 5-4 Win Over Americans
ALLEN, TX – Sean Erickson thought about shooting. With just over two minutes remaining in the third period, the Oilers defenseman raised his stick but didn’t pull the trigger. Instead, Erickson slid the puck to an open Jason Weeks who deftly tapped the puck into the net for the go-ahead goal and eventual game-winner in a 5-4 Tulsa win on Monday afternoon at the Allen Event Center. The victory snaps a four-game losing skid for the Oilers.
Allen led 1-0 after the first period, but the Oilers capitalized on a two-man advantage less than a minute into the second period when Erickson’s wrist shot beat James Reid on the glove side. Michel Beausoleil broke a ten-game goal scoring drought when he rifled home a slap-shot later in the frame to give Tulsa its first lead of the aftern ... more
Allen Too Much For Tulsa In 5-2 Decision
TULSA, OK – A crowd of 10,035 at the BOK Center wasn’t enough to push the Oilers past the Americans on Saturday night. Despite a packed house, Allen jumped out to a 4-0 lead and cruised to a 5-2 victory. It was the Americans first win in four meetings against Tulsa this season.
The visitors led 3-0 after the first period thanks to goals from Jeff Martens, Aaron McGill, and Bruce Graham.
Five minutes into the second period, Tyler Ludwig put the Americans up by four and Oilers goalie Ian Keserich was replaced by newcomer Steve Christie. Tulsa showed a spark when Dylan Clarke put the Oilers on the board with his 14th goal of the season. Before the second period was done, Nick Layton tallied for the Americans and pushed the Allen advantage back to four goals.
