Oilers Come Up Short In Allen
ALLEN, TX – Allen forward Nino Musitelli made sure his team continued it’s dominance over the Tulsa Oilers this season. Musitelli’s breakaway goal at the 17:12 mark of the third period gave the Americans a two-goal cushion and propelled them to a 3-1 victory over Tulsa on Saturday night at the Allen Event Center.
For the second straight night, Tulsa surrendered the game’s first two goals and trailed 2-0 after the first period. Oilers right wing Ryan Menei, without a goal in his last eight games, ripped a wrist shot past Allen goalie Steve Silverthorn on a second period powerplay to cut the deficit in half.
Despite several quality scoring chances in the third, Silverthorn shut the door. The Oilers were prepared to mount a final charge when Musitelli scooped up a loose puck at the Oilers blue line and beat Dan Bakala to the glove side to squash Tulsa’s momentum.
The Oilers have dropped two in a row and are now 0-4-0 against the Americans this season. Tulsa fell to 6-7-1 overall while Allen improved to a league best 10-2-0.
Bakala made 22 saves in a losing effort and the Oilers powerplay capitalized just once on seven opportunities.
The Oilers return to action on Tuesday night when they host the Fort Worth Brahmas at 7:05 p.m.
