Blue Team Earns 4-3 Shootout Win In Oilers Alumni Game

TULSA, OK – The fourth annual Oilers Alumni Game ended in thrilling fashion on Saturday night as the Blue Team skated away with a 4-3 shootout victory over the White Team at the Oilers Ice Center.  Forward Todd Marcellus, who played for the Oilers from 2002-2005, chipped in a goal, an assist, and a shootout goal to earn MVP honors.

Right wing Ryan Cramer, who is entering his second season in Tulsa, started the scoring for the White Team when he redirected a slapshot from Craig Lochhead (1998-99) into the back of the net.  Marcellus tied the game at 1-1 late in the first period after being set up by former Oilers General Manager Corey MacIntyre and Oilers Head Coach Bruce Ramsay.

At the 11:25 mark of the second period, Craig Hamelin (1995-96, 1999-01), who averaged better than a point per game in his three seasons with the Oilers, buried a Marcellus pass to give the Blue Team a 2-1 edge heading into the third period.

Early in the final frame, Chris Simms (1997-98, 2003-04) provided a two-goal cushion for the Blue Team on assists from Klage Kaebel (2001-06) and Curtis Voth (1998-01, 2005-08).  Michel Beausoleil and Troy Caley (1999-04) rallied the White Team with a pair of goals in the span of 65 seconds to force a decisive shootout.

With the shootout tied at 2-2, Marcellus was able to poke the puck underneath White Team goalie Brian George and after another fine save by Blue Team netminder Rob Mattison, Hamelin tallied the clinching goal.

The Alumni Game featured Oilers players from six different decades and the rosters combined for 1,315 games of NHL experience.  Defenseman and current Tulsa captain Tyler Fleck played alongside his dad, Allan Fleck, while Blue Team Head Coach Chris Lincoln improved his Alumni Game record to a perfect 3-0.

The Oilers would like to thank all the players who returned to Tulsa to make this game a success as well as all the loyal Oilers fans for their continued support!  Special thanks to Alumni Game sponsors Budweiser, Woody’s Corner Bar, Wyndham Hotel, Papa John’s, Urban Tulsa Weekly, and Z-104.5 The Edge.
