Oilers Rope Mavericks In Shootout, 3-2
Goaltender Marco Emond turned away all four shooters he faced in a shootout, while Aaron Davis and Marty Standish connected, to lift the Tulsa Oilers to a 3-2 shootout win over the Missouri Mavericks. The win pulled the Oilers to within three points of Missouri and Mississippi who are tied for fourth place in the Central Hockey League’s Northern Conference.
Jake Riddle opened the scoring with the Oilers 19th shorthanded goal of the season, tying Texas for the league high. Jeff MacDermid tied it with just over a minute left in the first period.
In the second period, it was the Oilers turn to score late. Luke Stauffacher was able to punch in a rolling puck and that held until Mike Burgoyne scored midway through the third. Standish’s shootout attempt that ended the game set off a raucous celebration as the Oilers wrapped up their home schedule.
Tulsa plays its final six games on the road starting at Amarillo on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m.

Oilers Rally Earns Big Point
The Tulsa Oilers overcame a two goal deficit at the start of the third period, and in spite of losing 4-3 to the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs in overtime still earned an important point to stay within striking of a playoff position in the Northern Conference.
Goaltender Marco Emond, in his first start of the season for the Oilers, stopped 20 of 21 shots he faced in the first period, as only Tyrel Lucas’ rebound with 39 seconds left gave Bossier-Shreveport a 1-0 lead.
Dan Riedel got that back for the Oilers in the first two minutes of the second period. His goal ended a shutout streak of 86:05 against Bossier-Shreveport. The Mudbugs answered back in the second period though with a shorthanded goal by Brett Smith and power play goal by Jeff Kyrzakos.
Derek Eastman’s’ shorthanded blast that cut the lead to 3-2 at 7:45 of the third period ignited the Oilers’ rally. Troy Riddle lifted home a rebound with 2:58 left to force the overtime.
It didn’t take long for Justin Aikins to end the contest, scoring 21 seconds into overtime. The point keeps the Oilers within two points of fifth place Missouri for the final playoff spot in the Northern Conference. The Oilers trail fourth place Mississippi by five points.
The Oilers and Bossier-Shreveport play again Sunday afternoon at 4:05 at the BOK Center.

Weird Trend Continues In 4-3 Shootout Loss
The bad news is the Tulsa Oilers lost 4-3 in a shootout at home to the Missouri Mavericks Tuesday night. The good news is the teams play again Thursday night at Missouri.
That bodes well for the Oilers, as the two teams have played each other six times this season, and the visiting team has won each time.
Tuesday it didn’t take long for Missouri to strike, as Nick Sirota scored just 12 seconds after the opening face off. Braden Walls stretched the lead to 2-0 midway through the first period, a period in which Oiler coach Bruce Ramsay admitted the team didn’t play well.
That changed in the second period, a special period for brothers Jake and Troy Riddle. Jake scored two power play goals, and Troy had a shorthanded unassisted breakaway goal.
The lead got wiped out though with another early period goal as former Oiler Tom Maldonado scored his second goal for Missouri, both against the Oilers, just 23 seconds into the third period. The shots on goal reflected the even nature of the game as Missouri had a 31-30 edge in regulation time.
Missouri also had the only shot in overtime as the game moved to a shootout. Dan Riedel scored on the Oilers first shot but none of the other four Tulsa players could score. And after Toby Lafrance had scored for Missouri, it came down to Jordan Foreman who was able to score for Missouri, giving the Mavericks their second shootout victory in Tulsa this season.
Game time Thursday is 7:05 p.m. The Oilers hope the season trend extends into game seven.

Brahmas Top Oilers, 5-2
A quick start wasn’t enough for the Tulsa Oilers as they fell to the Texas Brahmas 5-2 Sunday in Texas.
Jeff Gumaer opened the scoring in the first two minutes for the Oilers but Tyler Skworchinski evened it at 8:50 just a little over a minute after Texas coach Dan Wildfong called his timeout.
The Oilers got back on top as T.J. Caig scored just as he finished serving a penalty. Before the first period ended Skworchinski scored his second goal of the game.
Texas got second period goals from Ross Rouleau, and Kevin McLeod and a third period goal from Jordan Cameron, who also had three assists on the game.
The Oilers return home Tuesday night to play the Wichita Thunder at 7:05 in the make up game from Christmas night. Tickets from December 25th will be honored Tuesday or any other regular season home game.
