Video on TODAY: Marlo Thomas, actress and national outreach director for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, tells the story of Ryan Christian, a young artist and ice skater who is battling cancer of the adrenal gland. Ryan is the daughter of former Tulsa Oilers’ player Jeff Christian.

There is a group of youngsters that is happy to be in school this summer.

Approximately 30 kids ages 5-14 are taking part in Tyler Fleck’s summer hockey camp. The Tulsa Oilers captain heads up the hockey faculty which includes his teammates Derek Eastman, Marty Standish, Michel Beausoleil and Rob Mattison. They lead the hockey campers in a variety of beginning skating drills for the younger group, and more advanced skills for the older campers.

The camp hits the ice at 8:15 a.m. every day through June 24th. Fleck’s hockey school is open to the public for observation at the Oilers Ice Center located at 64th and Mingo.

The game five watch party takes place Friday at Buffalo Wild Wings in Broken Arrow at the Broken Arrow Expressway and Kenosha (71st Street) exit.  On Monday, the game six watch party will take place at Tulsa Hills Shopping Center Highway 75 at 71st Street, also accessible at Highway 75 and 81st Street. As the Stanley Cup final shifts to Boston from Vancouver the Tulsa Oilers also shift their watch parties to a different Buffalo Wild Wings. The Vancuver Canucks lead the best of seven series over the Boston Bruins two games to none.

The Oilers will host their game three watch party Monday night at 7 at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Tulsa Hills shopping center, located at Highway 75 and 71st Street. You can also access Buffalo Wild Wings at Tulsa Hills easily by taking 81st Street at Highway 75.

“Two great games, each decided by one goal and one in overtime, and two great watch parties” Oilers general manager Taylor Hall said. “Everyone who was at our first two watch parties should be sure to join us for the rest of the series. It’s possible this is going to be a long series, seeing how close the first two games have been.”

Among the prizes to be given away at each watch party are match play from the River Spirit Casino. Those 21 and older receive $10 match play coupons from the River Spirit Casino. Those on hand got to visit with former NHL great Garry Unger, current Oiler coach Bruce Ramsay, and Oiler scout emeritus Fred Gibbon displaying his Stanley Cup ring he earned for scouting for the 1974 champion Philadelphia Flyers.

Those 21 and older also received $10 match play coupons from the River Spirit Casino. The Oilers host watch parties for all games of the Stanley Cup final at Buffalo Wild Wings. Game two is Saturday June 4 again at the Buffalo Wild Wings in Broken Arrow (BA Expressway and Kenosha) at 7 p.m. There will be more trivia questions, and all fans 21 and older will receive the River Spirit match play.

With 23 minutes and six minutes left in game three of their opening round series of the Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup playoffs, it appeared the Tulsa Oilers and Mississippi RiverKings may wrap things up early. Instead the two teams are the last ones to determine their series.

Mississippi held a 2-0 lead in the series, and had just taken a 3-1 lead late in the second period of game three. The Oilers scored before the end of the second period and added two third period goals to avoid elimination with a 4-3 win. The Oilers had a three goal outburst in game four en route to a 4-1 win that evened the series and forced the deciding game five.

That game will be Saturday night at the BOK Center at 7:35. This is the final series of the eight opening round match ups to be determined. The Odessa Jackalopes defeated the Texas Brahmas 5-0 Thursday night to conclude their series 3-1.  The Allen Americans and Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs are the other Berry Conference teams that have advanced to the conference semi-finals. An Oiler victory on Saturday will pit Tulsa against Bossier-Shreveport, while Mississippi is playing for the chance to take on Allen in the next best-of-five series.
