Oilers Help Rampage Housing Efforts

The Tulsa Oilers are ramping up their efforts to assist our partners, the Tulsa Rampage, this season. We’re beginning by helping them find host families for their incoming players. It is an exciting opportunity for your family to help a young man achieve his dreams and to be an integral part of Oklahoma’s only Junior hockey team.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be providing some detail about players that have signed with the Rampage to give you an opportunity to get to know their players before they arrive in mid-August. You may even find a player you’d specifically like to house!

This week we focus on two foreign players, two from the state of Wisconsin and one from Virginia.

* The first foreign player comes from Sweden. He’s an outgoing young man who hopes to live with a family that will help him get to know the area and what it’s like to live in the U.S. He has an older sister and loves the idea of having host brothers or sisters. His favorite hobby is hockey, including watching all the NHL games but he also likes to get out a lot. He’s had a brief visit to the U.S. in the past but is looking forward to living here throughout the season.
* The second foreign player hails from a suburb of London England and played for the Rampage most of last season. He’s only 17 but has already graduated from high school. He’s got an outgoing personality and loved being a part of the Rampage’s community service projects last season.
* Both of the players from Wisconsin are 19 years old and both have younger brothers. The first is an outdoorsman who loves to go camping, fishing, golfing, and throwing frisbees. He’s a big baseball fan who loves to go to baseball games. He hopes to live in a family with younger kids and dogs and cats. He say’s he’s the rare kind of kid who likes to keep his room clean!
* The second Wisconsin player also loves to be outdoors including fishing and going to the lake to swim or jet ski. He likes biking and riding motorcycles as well. When indoors, he likes video games, reading, watching TV and hopefully hanging out with a family that has kids. In the spirit of a good Wisconsin native, he made a point to mention that he loves Cheese!
* The 17 year old Virginia native has already graduated from high school and will be looking for a job to help supplement his expenses while he’s here. He loves all sports, loves to go golfing, play putt putt, and go bowling. He will not have a car while in Tulsa so he’ll need to be housed with another player that will be bringing a car. He wants to share his love for hockey by mentoring a younger hockey player.

The Rampage have been huge supporters of the TYHA and we hope to return that support to them. Please take the time to contact housing director Robyn Willey at robyn@tulsarampage.com or by phone at (918) 237-1156 to get further information about housing a player for the upcoming season.

Southern Exposure

The Tulsa Oilers will open the 2010-11 Central Hockey League season at home at the BOK Center on Friday October 15, and will also have a new home in the Southern Conference of the CHL.
The CHL has unveiled the home opening dates and the conference alignment for the 18 teams that will play in the affiliated league with the International Hockey League. The league will play a 66 game schedule, with two conferences of nine teams each. Sixteen teams will qualify for the playoffs.
Joining the Oilers in the Southern Conference will be the Allen Americans, Arizona Sundogs, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Laredo Bucks, Mississippi RiverKings, Odessa Jackalopes, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, and Texas Brahmas.
Teams in the Northern Conference will be the Bloomington Prairie Thunder, Colorado Eagles, Dayton Gems, Evansville IceMen, Fort Wayne Komets, Missouri Mavericks, Quad City Mallards, Rapid City Rush, Wichita Thunder.
Plans call for the league to name the conferences after figures of historic significance to the CHL and IHL. Complete schedule details, include the Oilers home opponent, and remaing games will be announced later.
The Oilers had the second highest point total increase in the CHL this season under head coach Bruce Ramsay, who was in his first season with the Oilers. They will have 33 home games at the BOK Center in the 2010-11 season.
Season tickets for 2010-11 with plans for as low as $26 a month are now available by calling the Oilers office at 918-632-PUCK (7825).

Three CHL Forwards Sign With Oilers

Tulsa Oilers head coach Bruce Ramsay continues building the 2010-11 team by announcing the signing of three players who played extensively in the Central Hockey League last year. Ramsay has announced he has signed right wing Dan Riedel, left wing Jeff Gumaer both from last year’s Oilers’ team, and forward Chad Costello who played for Corpus Christi last season.

Riedel, joined the Oilers four games into last season and scored a goal in his first game. The 5-foot-9, 177 pounder from Rochester Hills, Mich., appeared in 52 games scoring 18 goals (three game winners) and 23 assists for 41 points.

Gumaer, from Webster Groves, Mo., also scored a goal in his first game with the Oilers at Laredo on December 27th. In his 35 games, the 5-10, 185 pounder had six goals and four assists for 10 points and was +6.

Costello, 5-9, 170 pounds was nearly a point a game player last season for Corpus Christi, with 13 goals and 42 assists for 55 points in 57 games. He was also +10. Although the Oilers didn’t play Corpus Christi last season, he’s hardly a stranger to Ramsay.

In 2008-09, Costello played 65 games for Muskegon in the International Hockey League, when Ramsay was coaching that team. He had 17 goals and 29 assists for 46 points in 65 games.

“Our fans could see the hard work that Dan and Jeff bring to the rink every night, and they’re going to like what they see from Chad, too,” Ramsay said.

The Oilers had the second highest point total increase in the CHL this season under head coach Bruce Ramsay, who was in his first season with the Oilers. They will have 32 home games at the BOK Center in the 2010-11 season.

Three Key Defensemen Back

It has nothing to do with fancy movie technology but Tulsa Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay is happy to be seeing in 3-D these days.
The Oilers have signed defensemen Derek Eastman, R.J. Linder and Sean Erickson for the 2010-11 Central Hockey League season. All three played for the Oilers last season.
‘This is a great nucleus for our blueline,” coach Bruce Ramsay said. “All three of these guys bring something special to the table.”
Eastman, 5-foot-10, 190 pounds will be the Oilers player assistant coach this coming season. In his first year in the CHL he was one of only two defenseman named to the league’s postseason all-CHL team. He led the league with six shorthanded assists and tied for fourth among defensemen in scoring with nine goals and 36 assists for 45 points in 63 games.
“Derek was a key player for us in all situations,” Ramsay said. “He obviously made an impression on the rest of the league to be voted onto the all league team.”
Linder saw his second cut short after 11 games with a knee injury. But at the time of his injury, he had four assists and led the Oilers at +11. The 6-foot-2, 195 pounder will be playing in his third season with the Oilers, but hard luck injuries have limited him to just 22 games over the previous two seasons.
“R.J. is the kind of player every coach would want on their team,” Ramsay said. “He’s had some tough luck with injuries and it was a blow when we lost him. Having him healthy for a full season will make a big difference for us.”
Erickson earned a spot on the CHL’s post season all-rookie team. At 6-foot, 175 pounds, he had five goals and 13 assists for 18 points, 15th among league rookies.
“Sean really developed as a solid all around player and became a good offensive threat for us as the season went along,” Ramsay said.

Oilers Aid Youth Hockey Association

When the heat hits its peak in July and August, kids can get some cool hockey lessons from the Tulsa Oilers.
Oilers players will be teaming up with Tulsa Youth Hockey Association for a “Learn to play Hockey Program” that will take place on four successive Saturdays starting July 17th at the Oilers Ice Center (64th and Mingo). The camps are for children 4 to 8 years old who have never played hockey with TYHA.
“This is grass roots hockey at the best and most fun level,” Oilers coach Bruce Ramsay said. “Teaching kids who’ve never played hockey how great of a game it is, is one of the things I’ve enjoyed most. I’m really looking forward to this and I know our players are too.”
Camp sessions will be from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. TYHA provides protective equipment and rental skates at no charge for the camp. Equipment is limited and based on participation.
For more information on the camp, contact Eric Lawless and (918) 845-3345 or email him at lawless01@live.com or visit the TYHA website at www.tyha.com.

(Tempe, Arizona) – The Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced the participating teams that will compete in the league’s 19th season beginning on Friday, October 15, 2010.

Although some material matters still remain to be worked out with the International Hockey League (IHL), the CHL will welcome four teams from the IHL who will join 13 returning CHL teams for the 2010-11 season. The participating teams will compete in two conferences during the season. The four existing IHL markets will be the three-time defending Turner Cup Champion Fort Wayne Komets, the Bloomington PrairieThunder, the Dayton Gems and the Quad City Mallards.

“The CHL and IHL are working on all the logistics of this groundbreaking association between our two great leagues,” said Michael Franke, IHL Chairman of the Board. “Everything is moving along well and we are very excited about the end result that could be formally announced soon. It has been a complete pleasure working with the entire Central Hockey League.”

The 2009-10 season saw close to two million CHL fans walk through the turnstiles during the regular season and playoffs culminating with the Rapid City Rush winning the CHL’s Ray Miron Presidents’ Cup in just their second season as a franchise.

The returning CHL teams for the 2010-11 season are the Allen Americans, Arizona Sundogs, Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs, Colorado Eagles, Laredo Bucks, Mississippi RiverKings, Missouri Mavericks, Odessa Jackalopes, Rapid City Rush, Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Texas Brahmas, Tulsa Oilers and Wichita Thunder.

“The compilation of teams for the CHL’s 19th season couldn’t be better and we couldn’t have more momentum heading into the season,” said Duane Lewis, CHL Commissioner. “The new additions from the IHL will be welcomed with open arms and could make this upcoming season one of the most entertaining and competitive in our history. We can’t wait to drop the puck in October.”

Announcements regarding playoff format, conference alignment, additional cities for the 2010-11 season and other team related issues will be made in the very near future and the 2010-11 CHL regular season schedule is slated to be released in July.
